Afghanistan's GDP per capita of US$450 ranks 194th of 196, among the very lowest measured, for a population of 43.8 million. On a PPP basis it ranks 184th.

US$ GDP rose 10.9% to US$19.7 billion in 2025, but real growth was only +1.5%; most of the dollar gain was exchange-rate and price effects, not output. The economy held 135th place, between Botswana and Madagascar, and remains below its 2014 peak of US$20.5 billion.

As of 2024, services made up 45.2% of output, agriculture 34.3% and industry 14.5%, with manufacturing at 8.4%. Inflation stood at 3.6% and unemployment at 13.3%, while government gross debt is 7.6% of GDP. The dollar economy has grown 5.6 times since 2000, when it measured US$3.5 billion and ranked 131st. It is now about the size of the Bend, OR metro area.
